RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Frontline healthcare workers (F-HCWs) are at the forefront of medical care providers against the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic which has life-threatening potentials. Inadequate knowledge and incorrect attitudes among HCWs can directly influence practices and lead to delayed diagnosis, poor infection control practices, and spread of disease. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding the COVID-19 pandemic among the frontline healthcare workers (F-HCWs) working at a tertiary care hospital situated in eastern Uttar Pradesh and to identify the factors significantly associated with KAP. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 260 health care providers across eastern Uttar Pradesh including Basti city during December 2020. Data was collected using a self-primed pretested questionnaire from the FHCWs working at a tertiary care hospital of eastern Uttar Pradesh. In this survey, a convenience sampling method was adopted. 12 items on knowledge, 10 items on attitude, and 5 items on practices related to COVID-19. The other variables consisted of 4 items on socio-demographic attributes, p-value and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were performed to assess the attitude and practices in relation to knowledge. RESULTS: Of the total 260 study population, 228 were interviewed online, 32 were self-administered. Knowledge and attitude of the nursing staff were highest but practice score was best for residents. Among different age groups knowledge, attitude and practices scores were highest for 35-45, 45-60 and 25-35 age groups respectively. Respondents having 5-10 years of experience had the best knowledge and the attitude score was highest for HCWs having 10-20 years' experience but the practice score was higher for HCWs having more than 20 years' work experience. Overall knowledge score of respondents having strong correlation with attitude (p<0.05) and to the practice (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: In this survey many F-HCWs reported adequate overall knowledge with a positive attitude and adopted appropriate practices. The F-HCWs with a higher level of education and more years of experience in health care facilities had better KAP towards COVID-19.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Knowledge of normal variation and measurements on a chest radiograph is essential to interpret any abnormality. There is paucity of information about normal measurement ranges and variations in young adolescents, particularly from Indian subcontinent. The aim of this study was to analyze certain normal variations on screening chest radiographs of healthy Indian adolescents and the objectives were to measure/assess (1) degree of inspiration, (2) cardiothoracic ratio (CTR), (3) presence of gastric fundic bubble, (4) fundocupolic distance, (5) presence of splenic flexure, (6) difference in height of diaphragmatic domes and (7) effect of inspiration on the CTR. METHODS: Digital chest radiographs obtained during routine medical examinations for all consecutive medical graduate aspirants in the year 2016 at a medical college, were analyzed for the above mentioned parameters using DICOM viewing software. RESULT: A total of 558 chest radiographs were analyzed. The mean age of the subjects was 18.50 (SD = 1.002) (range: 17-22 years). There were 497 (89.1%) male and 61 (10.9%) female. Degree of inspiration was at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th ribs in 29 (5.1%), 259 (46.4%), 264 (47.3%) and 6 (1%) respectively. Mean maximum transverse cardiac diameter, internal thoracic diameter, CTR were 1153.22 ± 120.01, 2935.24 ± 224.86 and 0.39 ± 0.03 respectively. Females had slightly higher CTR (0.40 ± 0.035) as compared to the males (0.39 ± 0.032) (p = 0.009). Gastric fundic bubble was visualized in 91% subjects. Mean fundo-cupolic distance was 8.75 ± 8.00. Mean value for difference in the level of two domes of diaphragm was 15.28 ± 5.38. CONCLUSION: The study highlights normal range of inspiration, CT ratio, fundocupolic distance and diaphragmatic dome level difference on screening chest radiographs in healthy Indian adolescents.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Doppler indices form an integral component of noninvasive evaluation of fetal well-being. There is paucity of information about normal obstetric Doppler indices, particularly from the Indian subcontinent. The aim of the study was to find the values of pulsatility index (PI), resistive index (RI) of umbilical artery (UA), and fetal middle cerebral artery (MCA) and calculate cerebro-placental ratio (CP ratio) for 18-40 weeks of normal gestation so that a reference range of these Doppler values can be postulated. METHODS: 200 patients were enrolled in the study for color Doppler study of UA and MCA and were serially followed up at 4-6 weeks interval for Doppler indices. Angle-independent Doppler indices like PI and RI for MCA and UA were obtained during each examination. CP ratio was calculated in each case. All the cases were followed up till delivery and the perinatal outcome was recorded. RESULTS & CONCLUSION: The fetal MCA PI and RI showed a parabolic curve with plateau at 28-30 weeks of gestation. A significant correlation was noted between MCA PI and RI with gestational age. UA PI and RI showed a gradual fall over the gestational age with a strong negative correlation. There was a significant correlation between MCA PI and UA PI with their respective RI values. CP ratio has also shown a parabolic curve with turning point at 31-32 weeks of gestation. A significant correlation was noted between CP ratio and gestational age. CP ratio also showed a minimal positive correlation with MCA PI and a strong negative correlation with UA PI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a common cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although catheter coronary angiography (CCA) is the gold standard in the diagnosis and management of CAD, coronary CT angiography (CCTA) has shown promising results for the same. METHODS: CCTA was done using 40 slice multi-detector CT (Somatom Sensation, Siemens, Germany) machine in 220 patients of suspected CAD. Patients were classified as (a) normal (no calcific or soft plaque), (b) non-obstructive coronary disease (<50% stenosis), (c) obstructive coronary disease (>50% stenosis), or (d) a non-diagnostic study. RESULTS: 96 (43.6%) cases were found to have normal coronary arteries on CCTA, 41 (18.6%) patients were classified as having non-obstructive disease, 67 (30.5%) patients were defined to have obstructive CAD, and 16 cases (7.3%) were inconclusive. Significantly obstructive triple vessel disease was noted in 4 (6%) cases. Double vessel disease was seen in 25 (37.3%) cases and single vessel disease was seen in 38 (56.7%). Single most common vessel with obstructive CAD was left anterior descending artery and was noted in 30 (44.7%) out of 67 such cases. The least affected vessel was left circumflex in 15 cases (22.3%). Median calcium score for non-obstructive CAD was 60 (range 30-95), and for obstructive CAD 300 (range 120-780). CONCLUSION: Key benefits of CCTA lie in the avoidance of CCA since it has a high negative predictive value. CCTA has a definite role in post-stent and post-coronary artery bypass graft patients.

RESUMO

Breast hamartomas are uncommon benign tumors of the breast. Imaging appearance of a breast hamartoma can vary widely. "Breast within a breast" sign on mammography is considered pathognomonic of this unusual entity. We describe mammographic and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) appearance of a case of hamartoma breast.

RESUMO

We report on the impact of hydrostatic pressure on the superconductivity of optimally (indium)-doped SnTe which is established to be derived from a topological crystalline insulating phase. Single crystals of Sn(1-x)In(x)Te were synthesized by a modified Bridgman method that exhibited maximum superconducting Tc of 4.4 K for x = 0.5. Hydrostatic pressure up to 2.5 GPa was applied on the crystals of Sn0.5In0.5Te, and electrical resistivity as a function of temperature and pressure was measured. We observed a decrease in the onset superconducting transition temperature from 4.4 K to 2.8 K on increasing pressure from ambient to 2.5 GPa. The normal state resistivity also decreased abruptly by an order of magnitude at 0.5 GPa but for higher pressures, it decreased marginally. From onset, offset and zero resistivity values, dTc/dP of ∼ -0.6 K GPa(-1) was confirmed. The low temperature normal state resistivity followed T(2) dependence suggesting Fermi liquid behaviour both for ambient and high pressure data. This increase in metallic characteristics accompanied by normal state Fermi liquid behaviour is in accordance with a 'dome structure' for Tc variation with varying carrier concentration.
